Redbridge Council has approved plans for a major overhaul of Ilford station as part of the Crossrail programme.

The proposals, submitted by Network Rail in October, include a new station building with a larger ticket hall, wider entrance and more ticket gates.

Further improvements will also be delivered to prepare the station for Elizabeth line services, including longer platforms, improved lighting, signage, customer information points, CCTV and overhead information screens.

The Arenas Cariocas in Rio de Janeiro looks to build on the experience WilinsonEyre gained from its work on the Olympic basketball stadium in London 2012. Its key feature is its adaptability.

The Arenas Cariocas comprise three distinct arenas under one 400m long roof, which provide 36,000 spectator seats. Among the sports it will host are basketball, judo, taekwondo, wrestling, Paralympic wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, boccia and sitting volleyball.

Highways England has revealed plans to upgrade the A19/A1058 Coast Road junction into a triple decker roundabout in North Tyneside.

The new “super” roundabout is part of the overall A19/A1058 Coast Road junction improvement and will see the lowering of the A19 beneath the existing A1058 Coast Road and roundabout to reduce congestion. Work is set to begin in August 2016.

The building set to become the world’s tallest, when it is completed in four years, will cost £700m to build.

Developer Emaar Properties announced the price tag for the Dubai Creek Harbour tower at a London event yesterday, held with Knightsbridge agents Harrods Estates, to market apartments in the wider development.

Construction work is planned to start in July.
